Book II -- The Hired Girls

II-I

I had been living with my grandfather for
nearly three years when he decided to move to
Black Hawk. He and grandmother were get-
ting old for the heavy work of a farm, and as
I was now thirteen they thought I ought to
be going to school. Accordingly our homestead
was rented to "that good woman, the Widow
Steavens," and her bachelor brother, and we
bought Preacher White's house, at the north
end of Black Hawk. This was the first town
house one passed driving in from the farm, a
landmark which told country people their long
ride was over.

We were to move to Black Hawk in
March, and as soon as grandfather had fixed

comment: I sort of stumbled upon The Hawk by aceincdt looking for new things to read on my last trip overseas. Despite my reservations, I started reading it and literally couldn't put it down. I've told everyone about it I am that impressed. Your writing style is so simplistic but so vivid. Thanks so much for them. I would love to read the next in the series so I can keep telling people about them!

comment: The boy and his hawk was a great read. One of the best I have read. Iterest is captured iealdimtemy and is maintained throughout. I like the meld of ancient history/legends/stories to the creation of the seemingly unexplainable event occurring in the novel. I would really like to read the 2 nd book I the series.Daniel

comment: I really don't see how plrafotm lock-in helps anybody. Reasonably low prices and a good ebook store will help keep customers loyal (After all if you have a Kindle or a Nook, are you really going to go through the hassel of buying the book from another store when you can get the same book on your device for a good price?), but lock in will just annoy them. http://gmnsdw.com tyfats [link=http://dyehmy.com]dyehmy[/link]

comment: This reminds me of an old nrusery rhyme called The Farmer in the Dell. But instead of eating things, they take things. Nice story. Love the ending with the vegetarian. http://qwqosqhldyx.com cxvxqjwgwz [link=http://ylojxf.com]ylojxf[/link]
